Wood mouse

Brief spells of sunshine this morning, I noticed that one of the voles, wasn't a vole but a wood mouse under the feeders too. Huge ears!

Dunnocks can be so mouse-like as they skulk about under the feeders.

Also a late (and one of the few I've seen this year) Red Admirals found one of the few flowers still in bloom. I saw a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly today too.

Predator and prey

The coal tits are very messy feeders, discarding the seeds that they don't want . This is to the benefit of the voles below.

There is more than one vole, this one stashing seeds under the slabs outside the kitchen window.

At lunchtime, I went out to the back field to check on "my" owls.

This is the more nervous of the two. They have roosted in the same area for at least 3 years. One is quite brown in comparison to its greyish mate.
Photo taken from about 20m away, the other bird was unconcerned by my presence.

Still a few swallows overhead today and many 7 spot ladybirds.

Silver Y

Ann found a settled Silver Y moth on the front door today.

Swallows still filtering through and the odd Tortoiseshell butterfly still about. Had a chiffchaff looking for spider on my washing line today, very exposed as a tit-flock moved through the back gardens.
First redwing was seen tseeping overhead on the 27th Sept as I painted out back. A mistle thrush flew through, on the exact same flight-line, 2 hours later.
